Day 1 – Great Falls, Montana

Today is the day.  “Rendezvous,” the official start of our 60 day Alaska/Calgary Adventure.

Everyone was taking care of last minute details, while the staff was finishing up necessary paperwork, distributing apparel, badges, etc. to our few latecomers.  Everyone was in the campground today by around noon and we were able to get everything completed.
Then, at 1 p.m. we began the Orientation and travel briefing in the meeting room.  It has been unseasonably hot here in Great Falls, so we were not looking forward to spending the afternoon in a building with no air conditioning.  However, the owner of the park came through for us and provided us with an air conditioner that helped make it much more comfortable for our gathering.

After staff introductions, Spence pointed out some important travel procedures before he began having everyone stand and tell a little bit about themselves.  Most are retired, from a variety of occupations, love the RV lifestyle and can’t wait to go “North to Alaska.”

The briefing was followed by an afternoon break. We then reassembled at 6:00 p.m. for a delicious feast (even if I do say somyself) prepared by he staff. We had a nice dinner of roast chicken, baked beans, tossed salad, rolls and dessert. Dinner was followed by a drawing for door prizes, and then everyone headed back to their RV's to make their final preparations for departure to Hill Spring, AB in the morning.
The start of a great meal
On behalf of your Wagonmasters, Spence and Madi Schaaf, and your Tailgunners, Jim and Betty Lenneman, we wish to thank everyone who pitched in and helped yesterday with clean-up.  It was greatly appreciated.
