Today was another travel day, but very enjoyable. As we left Homer, heading to Seward, we were surrounded
once again by beautiful glacial mountains, valleys, lakes and rivers. There were still stands of fireweed and other
wildflowers here and there. Most of the
wildflowers have gone to seed and winter is almost upon them here in this
area.
Hard to believe, when folks at home are reporting
temperatures in the 100’s. But they
claim to only have two seasons here in Alaska.
Winter and construction. We
experienced the latter today on our journey.
Pilot car and all. It didn’t last
too long, however, but covered us with some mud again with the drizzling rain.

Pilot car arrives |
We arrived at the Stoney Creek Campground and began to
get ready for our Game and Snack night in their nice meeting room. Most everyone wandered into town soon after
they arrived here. Then at 7pm we held
our travel briefing for the trip to Palmer.
But first things, first. Today
was David Young’s birthday and we presented him with a card and small gift and
a rousing chorus of “Happy Birthday.”

After the travel brief, David took the opportunity to pass Buddy Bear on to someone else. Not before he had us all laughing out loud at his animated conversation with the little guy prior to being given to Tom and Penny for sharing their halibut with everyone.

Then on to the games.
It was time for a rematch in double hearts! Two tables full of card players began their
games in earnest. There was a lot of
laughing and gasping going on at those tables.
Those of us trying to carry on a conversation at the other side of the
room had to speak up to be heard above the din.
They were having entirely too much fun!
