Day 32: Denali, Alaska

Today we started our day very early.  We left the RV Park accompanied by a 6:00 am sunrise on our bus tour of Denali National Park.

The sun was on it way up, and so were we
Eveyone was in great spirit for so early
We traveled through the Park starting in Denali. After a short section of paved road, the road became gravel.  They have found out that having gravel roads is a benefit to the animals.  We then proceeded over several river crossings and high alpine passes.

Our bus driver did a wonderful commentary telling us information about the Park’s history and possible future developments. The Park now consists of a total of 6 million acres, more than its original boundaries. It also boasts being the only National Park with a working full-time dog sled team.   One of the highlights of the trip was the sighting of moose, caribou, wolf, fox and dall sheep.  We also saw Mount McKinley shrouded in clouds as it had been most of the day.

We ate lunch at the Outback Lodge in Kantishna.  After lunch, we had the option to pan for gold, take a nature walk led by one of the owners or just relaxing by the river.

After a long ride home, we arrived safely back at the Park by 8 p.m.
